Nursing Home Patient Died After Suffering Severe Malnutrition and Dehydration While Rehabbing for Hip Surgery – Family Receives $800,000

Another 79-year-old female resident was at a Skilled Nursing Facility for rehabilitation after hip surgery. During her stay, she lost approximately 40 pounds due to malnutrition and dehydration.  After reviewing her labs upon discharge from the facility, a medical expert drafted a written report indicating that the case should be reviewed by the district attorney for potential manslaughter charges. Five days after her release from the facility, she died from acute renal failure due to the malnutrition and dehydration. Case settled for $800,000
